When I found Roam Red, I decided to give it a shot and join a trip that could help meet my personal expectations and my Barcelona dream! I found a trip with other people, around my age, that were planning a trip to Barcelona during the summer, so I decided to join! Before the trip, we discussed where we would stay, and decided on a hostel, since hostels plan a LOT of nightly activities that we could take part in. We also reserved, ahead of time, tickets to important tourist attractions, like the Sagrada Familia and Parque Güell, and split the cost.
On my international flight to Barcelona, I was filled with nerves and excitement to meet my new travel companions. I was excited that we already had a basic travel itinerary set that we all agreed upon. When I landed, I met up with another girl in our travel group at the airport that had landed around the same time and we shared a taxi to the hostel to meet the rest of our group. At the hostel, we were recommended a nice local bar across the street, so we all went there to have a few drinks and get to know each other!
One of my favorite parts of the entire trip in Barcelona were these small local bars with outdoor terraces, where you could have a beer or sangria and enjoy the amazing Barcelona weather. Almost everyday, our group would enjoy an afternoon sangria on a different local terrace!
Our daily travel plans included popular tourist attractions, most of which we planned ahead of time through the Roam Red platform. This made daily plans quite easy, even being a large group, because we had already made all the decisions ahead of time. Some of my favorite activities were spending time at the Barceloneta beach and trying the many different typical Spanish tapas (small plates).
At night time, we would usually join our hostel’s night excursions to a local club or bar. I was so surprised by how many new people and friends I made each night! Our group tried a new bar or club each night so that we could really get to know different local places.
All in all, my trip to Barcelona truly exceeded my expectations and was a dream come true! I initially made the travel plans with the thought that I would struggle finding friends to go out with and agree on my ideal travel itinerary. Yet, deciding to join a travel group on Roam Red allowed me to have an unforgettable trip with people that I will always remain in contact with.
